Emerson Network Power Announces Breakthrough Low-Cost MicroTCA Solution Designed for Multiple Industries
Innovative design and aggressive price point offer enterprise, medical and industrial automation market segments access to MicroTCA technology for the first time
TEMPE, ARIZ. [February 26, 2008] – Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business Critical Continuity™, today unveiled the Centellis™ 500, a fully deployable MicroTCA™ system that uses innovative plastic packaging, and Emerson’s MicroTCA Carrier Hub (MCH) and high performance processor module. Available for under $5,000, the Centellis 500 is a completely tested and validated MicroTCA system available for half the price of previous generation MicroTCA systems.
Made of an injection molded plastic enclosure that houses a MicroTCA backplane, fans, power module, MCH, PrAMC 7211 processor Advanced Mezzanine Card (AdvancedMCTM, AMC) and three additional AMC payloads, the Centellis 500 is designed from the ground-up to support a number of enterprise-level applications. These include IP-PBX, Packet Processing, VoIP Gateway, Network Point of Sales (POS), Industrial Automation, Access Router, WiMAX, Telemedicare, Remote Radiology and Patient Monitoring. Development and deployment will be accelerated by Emerson’s SpiderWareM3 Graphical User Interface (GUI)-based platform management, monitoring and maintenance software for quick system configuration and ease of use.
“This revolutionary new product enables engineers to develop MicroTCA applications that may previously have been cost-prohibitive for the enterprise, medical and industrial automation industries,” said Paul Virgo, director of MicroTCA marketing for the Embedded Computing business of Emerson Network Power. “As a result, the Centellis 500 will introduce MicroTCA to new market segments and applications for the first time, allowing a broad range of new developers to focus on critical, differentiating features that provide a crucial competitive advantage and faster time-to-profit in the embedded community.
“By leveraging the enclosure technology to significantly lower the price, this product not only has the unique ability to make a revolutionary difference by introducing the MicroTCA advantage to a broad range of new customers and market segments, but also to the overall future and success of the MicroTCA standard,” said Virgo.
The Centellis 500 is the latest product that demonstrates Emerson’s ongoing commitment to provide widespread access to leading edge, cost-sensitive and innovative MicroTCA technology solutions, having recently introduced a pair of dual-core AMCs using both PowerPC and Intel Corporation architecture processors at volume prices under $2000.
The Centellis 500 will be available in the second quarter of 2008 through Emerson Network Power’s global distributors. More information is available at www.EmersonNetworkPower.com/EmbeddedComputing.
